Support letters

Check whether the foundation or funding program requires and/or allows support letters from relevant stakeholders, such as faculty, institute, or hospital leadership formally endorsing the proposed project.

Tips for using support letters as attachments:

  • Choose letters from relevant and credible stakeholders with a demonstrable professional, institutional or strategic connection to the project.
  • Ensure the letter contains specific support for the project—e.g., why it is scientifically or societally important, and how the sender will contribute to or facilitate its success.
  • Keep it brief and professional: max. 1 page, preferably with date, signature, and official letterhead/logo.

Educational certificates

You may be asked to include your educational certificate if the foundation requests it. This is most often required if the applicant is an individual.

Tips for using educational certificates as attachments:

  • Include only relevant certificates—e.g., the most recent completed education or highest earned academic degree.
  • Check if the foundation's guidelines explicitly request it.
  • Use official documents and avoid unofficial transcripts from learning portals unless otherwise specified.

Partnership declarations

Documentation of collaboration with partners (e.g., universities, NGOs, companies), especially if the project is cross-institutional or international.

Tips for using partnership declarations as attachments:

  • Obtain declarations from official partners who actively contribute to the project's execution.
  • Ensure the declaration clearly describes the partner's role, responsibilities, and level of commitment to the project.
  • Keep the declaration brief and formal—max. 1 page with date, signature, and preferably letterhead/logo.

Tips for attachments 💡

  • Adapt the content, structure and format to the specific  requirements of the funding body. Many foundations provide templates or have strict guidelines regarding page limits, formatting or typography etc.
  • Name your attachments clearly and unambiguously to facilitate review and ensure quick navigation.
  • Avoid unnecessary attachments. Include only relevant documents explicitly requested or directly relevant to the application.
