The Jens Christian Skou Award

The Jens Christian Skou Award is a talent award instituted by the Faculty of Health Sciences at Aarhus University. It is named after Aarhus University's first Nobel Prize winner, Jens Christian Skou (8 October 1918 - 28 May 2018), and it is presented once a year to an outstanding early-career Health Science researcher of international standard.

The purpose of the award is to celebrate an extraordinary research talent at the Faculty of Health Sciences whose research has documented exceptional creativity and productivity.

In order to be considered for the award, the researcher must have demonstrated outstanding skill and potential to become an internationally leading researcher in the longer term. Furthermore, candidates must have completed their PhD degree within the past ten years.

Only heads of department at the Faculty of Health Sciences can nominate candidates for the award. The nominations are assessed by Dean's Office at the Faculty of Health Sciences, which then appoints the winner.

The award was presented for the first time in 2016, when Nobel Prize winner Jens Christian Skou himself presented it to Trine Mogensen.
The award includes DKK 100,000, earmarked for the recipients research activities.
