Health Student Research Prize

The Health Student Research Prize recognises students who have distinguished themselves with a par-ticularly excellent example of written work. The award was introduced to highlight the breadth of stu-dent research at The Faculty of Health Sciences and is an alternative to the former gold medal assign-ment.

Who can make a recommendation?

Are you employed and supervisor for a student at Health who has distinguished his or herself through a particularly excellent example of written work? Then you can recommend the student for the Health Student Research Prize.

Members of the Academic Council are not eligible for recommending a student.

Who can be recommended?

Students, research year students and integrated PhD students from a degree programme at Health, who have distinguished themselves through a particularly excellent piece of written work, such as e.g. a Bachelor's project, Master's thesis, an article, or similar.

The work for which the prize is awarded must have been completed during the period of study and the recommendation may be made up to one year after the student earn their degree from Health. Inte-grated PhD students can only be recommended for work they have completed while they were Master’s degree students (i.e. before they transfer to Part B).

Previous prize winners cannot be recommended.

The written contribution

Written contributions that may form the basis for assessment can be a written assignment (experi-mental or theoretical) or an article (draft or published) with the student as the lead author. The contri-bution can be in either Danish or English.

Co-author declarations are required for the contribution. If necessary, use this template.

It is not a prerequisite that the written work is produced as part of a formalised programme (it may be based on voluntary research in a student’s leisure time outside of a formalised programme).

Assessment

The nominee is assessed by a sub-committee from the academic council. The assessment is based on the recommendation from the supervisor and the student's written work. The nominee is assessed on the basis of a single written contribution, with the nominee’s CV only used as a supporting document.

Assessment criteria:

• Originality in the approach to the topic
• Insight and overview of the original literature in the area
• Ability to advance original testable hypotheses and/or ask relevant scientific questions
• Ability to formulate himself/herself at a high academic level
• Clear communication of messages
• That the work represents a substantial, outstanding performance

The assessment takes into account the different levels of contributions and recognises the singular presentation on the individual levels.

Awarding

The prize is awarded once a year, usually in January-February on the basis of a deadline which normally lies in November.

As a general rule, one prize is awarded per department: Department of Public Health, Department of Biomedicine, Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, and Department of Clinical Medicine/Depart-ment of Forensic Medicine. The departmental affiliation for a given recommendation follows the recom-mender’s (supervisor) primary place of employment.

The prize from a department may accrue to another department if the assessment committee deems it appropriate.

How do I recommend a student?

The supervisor recommends a student by filling in the form on the website. The student's written work, including the co-authorship statement and CV, are uploaded together with the completed form (max 10 MB)
