Evacuation of the Skou Building: There was never any danger

Update at 13.30 hrs: On arrival, the fire brigade was worried that there was dangerous material in the compartment where there was steam development. However, it quickly became clear that dangerous biological material was not stored in the vicinity of the vapours that triggered an alarm in the Skou Building this morning.

Both the occupational health and safety representatives and the university's expert on chemical waste are currently in the process of technical studies, and the theory is that there is a small vapour development from the nitrogen tanks in the risk waste room.

The evacuation process was unproblematic, but nonetheless the management at the Department of Biomedicine will take initiative to evaluate the process.

The fire brigade and the police left the area shortly before 11 pm, and the employees are now back in the Skou Building.


11:10 hrs:

Employees can now return to the Skou Building

The alarm has now been revoked, and the employees will soon be able to return to their offices and laboratories in the Skou Building.

The Skou Building is no longer blocked. Experts have been on the site, and they assess that the fumes have slowed down and that there is no danger. The employees can therefore start returning to the Skou Building. The fire brigade and the police are packing up.

10.55 hrs:

The Skou Building is evacuated due to smoke development

On Wednesday morning around nine o’clock, the speech alarm system sounded in the Skou Building as a result of smoke development in the risk waste room nearby. No one has been injured, and all employees working in the building have now been evacuated.

The police and the fire brigade are on site. The Skou Building has been cordoned off and the employees evacuated after smoke development in the risk waste room, which is located in a separate building close to the Skou Building. Chemical waste is stored here.

The police and the fire brigade are on site, and they send a smoke diver to investigate the matter further.

The police kindly asks everyone to stay away from the Skou Building, as it is not possible to block off the area completely.

It is not yet known when the employees will have access to the building again.
