See the photos: Grønnegården now inaugurated

In only nine months, a grey, gravel-covered car park has been transformed into a green and vibrant outdoor space beside the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health (IOOS). Grønnegården was inaugurated on Thursday 9 June 2022 with speeches, ribbon cutting, and cake for staff and students.

When the Skou Building was being built, there was a need for storage space. Therefore, Grønnegården on the other side of Vennelyst Boulevard was converted for deliveries and parking with a pledge that the area would be restored after construction work was completed. On Thursday 9 June, the renovation of Grønnegården was celebrated with a festive inauguration.

The Dean's Office at Health financed the renovation, and Dean Anne-Mette Hvas had the honour of cutting the red ribbon and officially inaugurating Grønnegården.

Just nine months ago, Grønnegården was somewhat grey and full of parked cars. Today, it is green and yellow and full of life. There is access to Grønnegården from the cafeteria at IOOS and from Høegh-Guldbergsgade.

"Grønnegården was restored in record time, and as we stand here in these beautiful surroundings, it’s clear that having to live with the noise of the construction site for the past few months has really paid off," said Head of Department Siri Beier Jensen in her opening speech. There was also great praise for Head of Building Services Conor Leerhøy and the whole of Estates Facilities. Furthermore, there were thanks to the cafeteria committee for advice and the departmental forum at IOOS, who have insisted on celebrating everything that can be celebrated, including the restoration of Grønnegården.

The project manager and the mastermind behind it all was Olga Mabelenge, MScEng, who is employed at Health Estates Facilities and who designed the new outdoor area at Grønnegården and headed the entire renovation process. He has an office facing Grønnegården, and has therefore had a front-row seat to follow the entire process.

Students, patients, and staff, not just from IOOS but from the whole faculty, are all welcome to use Grønnegården.

There was coffee and cake for the approx. 100 employees and students who turned up for the inauguration. On an otherwise slightly grey and cloudy Thursday, the sun came out exactly between 14:00 and 16:00 to warm the festivities.

When it is not inauguration day, the new outdoor environment has also proved to be the perfect setting for family and friends to celebrate new IOOS graduates with flags and champagne.

Besides benches and green areas, Grønnegården also has three greenhouses or 'orangeries', so the new area can be used all year round and in all kinds of weather.

Grønnegården is ideal for discussions with colleagues, study group meetings, or a lunchtime break.
