New positions to strengthen innovation and industry collaboration
A multi-million-kroner grant from the research reserve is now being channelled into innovation positions across Aarhus University. At the Faculty of Health Sciences, the first four positions have just been advertised.
- Aarhus University has received DKK 335 million over four years for innovation from the research reserve.
- Approximately half of the funds will be converted into innovation positions across the university.
- In addition, part of the funds will go to AU Launch — the university's own fund for commercial development — and AU Connect, the fund for building collaborations with companies.
- The newly appointed innovation staff will be embedded locally within the departments and affiliated with a faculty-level forum for innovation and collaboration, as well as Kitchen.
- The first four positions at the Faculty of Health Sciences have just opened for applications.

More than DKK 330 million spread across four years was in the coffers when Aarhus University received additional funding for innovation from the research reserve. That money is now being put to work, with approximately half going towards dedicated innovation positions.
The aim is to realise the university's full innovation potential and create tangible benefits for society. And while the money for the innovation positions has its roots in Christiansborg, it sits squarely within the university's Strategy 2030, where research-based innovation and entrepreneurship are central priorities.
The first positions at the Faculty of Health Sciences have just opened for applications, says Dean Anne-Mette Hvas:
"We have advertised four positions in this first round. Our ambition here at the faculty is not simply to strengthen collaboration with industry, but also to foster more spinouts and new research partnerships that can go out into the world and make a real difference in healthcare," she says.
The newly advertised positions are spread across four departments, with departments set to have the opportunity to advertise further positions at a later stage, explains Anne-Mette Hvas:
"The funds from the research reserve give us the opportunity to drive innovation and new thinking in a way that simply wasn't possible before. This is about far more than starting a company — it is about our ability to put the very latest knowledge to use out in society. That is something we are already good at, but these positions will allow us to go even further."
