New professor to enhance research on breast cancer treatment and survivorship
Deirdre Cronin Fenton is a new professor of breast cancer prevention at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and the Department of Clinical Epidemiology (KEA) at Aarhus University Hospital.
Deirdre Cronin Fenton is a cancer epidemiologist, and her research focuses on treatment and survivorship after breast cancer. She uses advanced epidemiological techniques and a large network of Danish registers to investigate the clinical course and outcomes of breast cancer.
The newly appointed professor's ongoing research projects include topics such as breast cancer in premenopausal women, the impact of body weight and obesity on cancer prognosis, and long-term outcomes after breast cancer. The goal is to find new mechanisms that can reduce the likelihood of relapse and improve survival rates.
"My research is especially important for the increasing number of people who live for a long time after a cancer diagnosis. Mapping factors such as concomitant diseases, medication, socioeconomic factors and genetics can help adapt follow-up care for cancer survivors after completing treatment. My professorship will enhance research in this area. I am proud to be awarded this professorship at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Aarhus University, which are world-class institutions," says Deirdre Cronin Fenton.
She took up her professorship on 1 October 2023.
