New professor and chair at Health within dermato-venerology diseases

With an ambition to find new ways to couple the right treatment to the right patients, and to attract more early-career researchers to the area, Christian Vestergaard will be taking up the position as the new clinical professor and chair at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and the Department of Dermatology at Aarhus University Hospital.

Christian Vestergaard conducts wide-ranging research into skin diseases, but his primary focus is on inflammatory reactions in the skin to conditions such as child eczema, urticaria (hives) and skin cancer.

"Our research aims to describe key elements for the treatment of these diseases, for example by blocking them with antibodies," says Christian Vestergaard, and continues:

"Furthermore, along with nurses and general practitioners, I’ve also started several projects to examine patients' journeys through the system and describe some of the challenges they face."

Christian Vestergaard is looking forward to being able to involve more young researchers in his projects as a clinical professor and chair. However, he also wants to stimulate more focus on skin diseases among policy-makers.

"I hope that I will also have an opportunity to inform policy-makers in Denmark about skin diseases and the enormous consequences they have for the patients, so that we can perhaps help patients better."
