National Centre for Register-based Research moves from Aarhus BSS to Health
On 1 January 2025, the National Centre for Register-based Research will move organisationally from Aarhus BSS to Health and relocate at the Department of Public Health.
Facts about moving the National Centre for Register-based Research
- The National Centre for Register-based Research will move organisationally from Aarhus BSS to Health on 1 January 2025, and it will become part of the Department of Public Health.
- Physical relocation of the centre will not take place until after summer 2025 and before the end of 2025, when the National Centre for Register-based Research has to vacate the premises on Fuglesangs Allé.
- Several working groups will be set up to ensure a good, open and inclusive process.
- The academic staff at the centre cover a wide range of research expertise, from medicine and statistics to pharmacology, sociology and psychology.
During 2025, employees from the National Centre for Register-based Research will move out of the building on Fuglesangs Allé to the Department of Public Health. Around 45 of the employees will have a permanent desk at the Department of Public Health, while the other 15 or so employees will have a looser affiliation and will most often work from their main place of employment, for example at another university in Denmark or abroad.
The transfer of the centre is the result of a desire to increase collaboration with the health sciences and closely related academic environments at Health, and Dean of Health Anne-Mette Hvas is pleased that an agreement has been reached to the satisfaction of both faculties.
Great academic potential
"At Health, we have high expectations for future research collaboration – both between employees at the centre and employees at the Department of Public Health, and between centre employees and employees at the rest of the faculty. Academically, there is great potential to develop strong, interdisciplinary research," she says.
For some years, the deans of Health and Aarhus BSS have been in dialogue about the possibility of moving the National Centre for Register-based Research to Health. Now, everything has fallen into place and the decision has been made.
Dean of Aarhus BSS Thomas Pallesen is also pleased with the agreement to transfer the centre in the new year.
"We've been very happy to have the centre at Aarhus BSS, but I'm in no doubt that we've made the right decision – a decision that will support and develop the centre's national and international research profile in the best way possible. And we’ll make sure that the move never obstructs the continuation and further development of interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers at Aarhus BSS," he says.
We’ll allow the process ahead to take its time
The proposal to move the National Centre for Register-based Research was welcomed by members of the liaison committee organisation at both faculties, and members of the committees provided specific and relevant input to ensure that the process ahead progresses in the best possible way, with constant focus on the needs and best interests of staff.
"I'm grateful for the positive attitudes to the proposal during the process. No one has questioned our reasons for relocating the centre. And we’ve received a lot of good advice to help us along the way in the process that has now begun, and which, fortunately, we have plenty of time to complete. We can take it one step at a time before deciding how and when we will physically move together," says Dean Anne-Mette Hvas.
