James is a Professor of Exercise Metabolism. He has authored over 160 research publications in the fields of exercise metabolism, exercise physiology and sports nutrition as well as numerous books / book chapters on these topics. In addition to research, James also works in elite professional sport in performance support roles. From 2010-2015, he was the performance nutritionist to Liverpool FC and was also the Head of Nutrition and Physical Performance Lead for Team Sky between 2015 and 2019 having led the nutrition strategy for the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 Tour de France victories. He also sits on the Technical Steering Panel for the English Institute of Sport and advises the Premier League in a performance mentoring role.
