One step closer to medical students in Gødstrup

Recently, the Central Denmark Region’s Regional Council approved a recommendation to establish a new master’s track for 30 medical students in Herning. The plan is contingent on securing the necessary funding, with the aim for students to commence their master’s studies in Gødstrup starting from 2029.

A final agreement on a new master's track for 30 medical students in Herning is now one step closer with the Regional Council’s approval. The agreement stems from a collaboration between Central Denmark Region, Gødstrup Regional Hospital, Herning Municipality, and Health to create a track with a total of 30 students in Herning. And with the approval in the Regional Council, the next step is to negotiate the financial framework in the Regional Council’s budget negotiations in the autumn, says Dean Anne-Mette Hvas:

“We are now looking forward to the region’s budget negotiations, because we need to know the financial framework before we can really work further on the basis of a final agreement.”

It has been described several times in the media that the master's track in Gødstrup is to be focused on general medicine and the primary health sector, with from the hope that more students will be inspired to become a general practitioner. And that is indeed the ambition, but the offer of a greater focus on precisely general medicine will apply to all Health’s medical students, emphasizes Dean Anne-Mette Hvas:

“We will revise the curriculum, so all our students to a greater extent can choose general medicine. There is a great need for more general practitioners around the country. Therefore, we will also, in parallel with the launch of a master's track in Herning, reassess the entire curriculum, so all future medical students will have the opportunity to follow that path if they wish.”
