Centre opening: Learn more about pregnancy and autoimmune diseases
On 7 October, the PREG-AID research centre will officially open with a symposium on autoimmune diseases, treatment and pregnancy. Join researchers and clinicians as they come together to share new knowledge aimed at making pregnancy and treatment safer for both mother and child.

What happens when researchers across specialties come together to explore autoimmune diseases, medical treatment and pregnancy?
That is the focus when PREG-AID – Centre for Preconception and Pregnancy in Autoimmune Diseases hosts its opening symposium on 7 October.
Here, you can meet researchers and clinicians from a wide range of disciplines, gain insight into current research projects and hear about the latest knowledge in the field.
From fertility to biological drugs
The presentations cover a broad range of topics – from fertility and pregnancy to medical treatment and the child’s health later in life. At the opening symposium, you can learn more about, among other things, the relationship between diabetes and pregnancy, how maternal immune-mediated disease affects the next generation, and the safety of new biological drugs.
Professor Uma Mahadevan from the University of California, San Francisco, will provide an international perspective on immune-mediated inflammatory diseases during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In addition, researchers from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Aarhus University Hospital will present five current projects illustrating the breadth of PREG-AID’s work.
Dean Anne-Mette Hvas will open the symposium, while Professor and Deputy Head of Department Tine Brink Henriksen and Clinical Associate Professor Mette Julsgaard, Director of PREG-AID, will outline the centre’s ambition to bring together researchers and clinicians across diseases and specialties.

Discover new opportunities for collaboration
The researchers on the programme represent, among others, Aarhus University Hospital, Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus and Fertility Clinic Horsens – University Clinic AU.
The aim of the symposium is both to present current research and to bring together researchers and clinicians from different disciplines. For Mette Julsgaard, Director of PREG-AID, this interdisciplinary exchange is an important part of the centre’s work.
“We have many strong research environments with different skills and areas of expertise that can benefit one another. When we bring them together, new collaborations and new knowledge can emerge, ultimately improving guidance and treatment for patients,” she says.
Following the presentations, the academic discussions will continue at a reception, where there will be an opportunity to meet speakers and colleagues from across research areas.
