In both regional, national, and international studies, Rikke Damkjær Maimburg researches significant clinical topics related to pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. With a background in midwifery, she is interested in the perspective of pregnant women and also in the interdisciplinary collaboration that ensures optimal conditions for pregnant women, those giving birth, and new mothers, as well as their families. Rikke Damkjær Maimburg can now dedicate herself to this field of research in a new professorship, which is also the very first of its kind in midwifery at Aarhus University.

The new professor, who assumed her position on October 1, 2023, is currently working on a large international study that investigates the childbirth experience of new mothers in 12 different countries, and a Nordic study on the well-being and learning of midwifery students. She hopes that the professorship can help to further strengthen international research collaboration in the field.

“I have a large interdisciplinary and international research network, and the professorship can help to consolidate this. A professorship in midwifery will also mean that Denmark can be represented in more international research forums,” says Rikke Damkjær Maimburg, who is also head of the graduate programme for Health’s clinical PhD programme.

Edited 13 November 2023: Start date of professorship changed to 1 October.
