This autumn offers plenty of chances to connect with our European university alliance, Circle U. You can apply for funding for your diversity project, learn more about open science, and join the conversation on academic freedom.

Diversity and inclusion: Do you have a good project idea?
Circle U. has once again opened applications for funding to strengthen diversity and inclusion. You can apply for up to €4,000 for your project, whether you are a student or staff member.
Projects can take many forms – from concrete events to new collaborations – as long as they promote diversity across the alliance’s universities. There will be an online info meeting on 1 October, and the application deadline is 31 October.

Online event: Fast forward Open Science
Open Science is more than just a buzzword – it’s the future of knowledge sharing. At this online event, you’ll gain insights into how to create more open access to research: from open access publishing and research data management to open source software and educational resources. A perfect chance to get fresh inspiration and practical tools for your own work.
The event takes place on Wednesday 22 October 2025, 13:30–16:30.

Open Conversation: Academic Freedom Under Pressure
Academic freedom is under pressure in many parts of the world – but how do we ensure it is not eroded? In this session, you will meet researchers and leaders from several European universities, who share their experiences with censorship, activism, and freedom of expression. Together they will discuss where the line should be drawn between research, personal opinion, and political engagement – and what we can do to protect the freedom to think and speak openly.
The event takes place on Tuesday 28 October 2025, 13:30–16:30.
Deadline for registration is Monday 27 October.
Circle U. brings together nine European universities and gives you the chance to think big, collaborate broadly, and help shape the university of the future.
