In Herning, medical, nursing, and radiography students will soon cross educational paths as they come together for joint training in areas such as simulation training, virtual reality use, and clinical practice.
The new health clinic, called SUND+, has been established with the ambition to facilitate knowledge sharing, interdisciplinary understanding, and collaborative learning among healthcare students. This, in turn, aims to strengthen community healthcare to benefit both students and patients, says Dean Anne-Mette Hvas:
“If we are to continue providing high-quality and equitable healthcare for all, we must work even better across professions and ensure a strengthened effort in community healthcare. It is essential for our graduates to gain a basic understanding of how to support patients collaboratively as they navigate the often complex pathways of diagnosis and treatment. With SUND+, we are creating a learning environment that reflects the future in which these students will work.”

Originates from 30 Master’s Places in Gødstrup
The opportunity and desire to establish SUND+ in Herning have grown from Health and VIA’s shared ambitions to create educational placements in the area. Together with Central Denmark Region, Health has agreed to set up 30 places for Master’s students in medicine at Gødstrup Regional Hospital. Herning Municipality’s Mayor, Dorte West, is pleased that an agreement has been successfully reached across the municipality, region, Health, and VIA.
“I am delighted that, in collaboration with Aarhus University and VIA University College, we are not only enhancing our educational offerings in Herning but also strengthening community-based healthcare by better equipping students to understand each other’s competencies and build strong partnerships they can draw on both during and after their studies,” she says.
SUND+ will be established on the site of the former hospital in Herning and organised as a single unit where education and clinical practice come together, allowing students to meet both in the clinic and during instruction.
“The unique aspect of SUND+ is that we are creating a professional community where students stand shoulder to shoulder in the clinic. They encounter patients and experience firsthand how crucial it is to respect each other’s expertise and integrate collaboration and support where relevant throughout the patient’s journey,” says Anne-Mette Hvas.
SUND+ will open in the summer of 2026.
