Long-standing partnership with Aarhus University

Walter F. Boron is professor at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. His field of research is the transport of acid-base molecules across cell membranes. According to Allan Flyvbjerg, dean of the Faculty of Health, Walter F. Boron has made a number of very high quality original observations, which have influenced the contemporary view of key physiological mechanisms and formed the basis for the development of new medicine.

"Walter F. Boron’s innovative thinking has led to an understanding of the body's acid-base regulation. He has inspired many researchers at Aarhus University, and the cooperation that has taken place over the last 15 years between Professor Boron and these researchers has been particularly valuable and has resulted in numerous joint publications," says Allan Flyvbjerg.

Professor Boron has published a large number of scientific articles and he has also been chief editor of the widely used physiology textbook Medical Physiology, which has been especially praised for its very pedagogical approach to physiology’s difficult concepts. Walter F. Boron has also taken on editorial tasks for some of the best scientific journals within the field of physiology.

Walter F. Boron was educated at Saint Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis. He has visited Aarhus University six times, most recently as keynote speaker in connection with Health’s PhD Day in January.
