Many men have a low sperm count. And a low sperm count is the most common cause of involuntary childlessness for men.

Cecilia Høst Ramlau-Hansen has just been appointed professor in reproductive epidemiology at Aarhus University. Here she will, among other things, examine the causes behind the fact that 15 percent of Danish couples experience great difficulty in conceiving children without the aid of fertility treatment.

”Low sperm count, early or delayed puberty, involuntary childlessness and artificial insemination, disturbances in the menstrual cycle, an imbalance in sex hormones and deformed reproductive organs – these are the central elements of my research, and I try to identify the causes of these negative events,” explains Cecilia Høst Ramlau-Hansen, before emphasising that she looks for these causes primarily in the fetal stage.

Cecilia Høst Ramlau-Hansen lives in Hobro in central Jutland with her husband and their three sons aged 19, 13 and 5.
