New professor to strengthen research on work and health
Karin Biering has been appointed Professor of Occupational Epidemiology at the Department of Clinical Medicine. Here, she conducts research into work-related illness and the prevention of health problems in working life.
In her new role as professor, Karin Biering is working to strengthen research into the relationship between working life and health.
“My research should help ensure that fewer people become ill because of their work. In particular, it is about identifying risk factors in working life and generating knowledge that makes it possible to prevent health problems in working life. I hope that the professorship will open up new opportunities for collaboration both internally and externally,” she says.
Karin Biering’s research spans a broad range within occupational medicine, focusing, among other things, on work-related illness, the psychosocial working environment (e.g. violence and threats in the workplace), and social inequality in mental health. She primarily works with questionnaire-based and register-based studies that follow individuals and population groups over time.
At present, the professor is involved in projects on pesticide exposure and the risk of Parkinson’s disease, as well as harassment, threats and violence in psychiatric services. The aim is, among other things, to contribute research-based knowledge to compensation assessments, preventive initiatives and rehabilitation following a work-related illness or accident.
Karin Biering is a qualified physiotherapist and holds a Master’s degree in Health Science from 2008 and a PhD from 2013. She is affiliated with the University Clinic of Occupational Medicine at Regional Hospital Gødstrup.
