New name for the Centre for Medical Education

The Centre for Medical Education (MEDU) is changing its name to the Centre for Health Sciences Education (CESU). The change of name will highlight the fact that CESU is an interdisciplinary unit which carries out tasks for all departments and schools at Health.

[Translate to English:] Center for Medicinsk Uddannelse (MEDU) skifter navn til Center for Sundhedsvidenskabelige Uddannelser (CESU). Navneskiftet skal synliggøre, at CESU er en tværgående enhed, der løser opgaver for alle institutter og skoler på Health.

CESU has an interdisciplinary focus for Health, Aarhus University and works together with the Central Denmark Region, Further Education Region North and other educational institutions within the health science to develop and improve study programmes. This collaboration is very valuable and creates a broad unit which utilises research, education, development and consultancy to ensure practically orientated, research-based study programmes on an international level.

Vice-dean for Education Charlotte Ringsted has the strategic managerial responsibility for CESU, while the day-to-day management of the centre is undertaken by a professor in the case of the pre-graduate area, and an associate professor in the case of the postgraduate area. The two positions will be filled during the course of 2015.

"With the new organization of CESU and the interdisciplinary focus we have a strong basis for developing and improving the study programmes. The exceptional collaboration between Health at Aarhus University, the Central Denmark Region and Further Education Region North makes it possible for us to become an internationally recognised centre contributing with innovation in the research and development of health sciences education," says Charlotte Ringsted.

A centre with a shared footing and a shared vision

The organisation of CESU and its tasks are defined in a foundation document and have been discussed with both the faculty management team and the regions.

Anders Roed, chief adviser at the Dean's Office at Health, has been actively involved – together with representatives from the former MEDU – in the development process and defining the centre’s tasks and organisation. He is very pleased with the result.

"It means have a common footing and vision for the centre, so that we can continue to strengthen the academic, educational and developmental level of our study programmes. It is important for us to strengthen our profile and make it more visible by changing the name," says Anders Roed.
