The new doctor from the Faculty of Health Sciences specialises in experimental research projects focused on the spine. The aim of Haisheng Li’s research is to further advanced and innovative surgical techniques within bone replacement.

His research has led to several breakthroughs, including the development of a specialised implant for spinal fusion: a procedure that permanently joins together two or more vertebrae. He has also demonstrated that parts of animal bone can be used as a substitute for human bones in surgery. This has paved the way for new treatment methods in both spine and orthopaedic surgery.

"My research has always been driven by a desire to overcome the challenges in spine surgery. I’m convinced that we can significantly improve surgery and the quality of life of patients through continuous research and innovation," says Haisheng Li, who now works at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Aarhus University Hospital.
