For many years, Yazan F. Rawashdeh has conducted research into rare congenital urological conditions in children and how these disorders affect both children and their families in the short and long term.

His research spans clinical studies as well as genetic, hormonal, and environmental analyses, with a particular focus on disease progression, long-term consequences, and children's quality of life following treatment.

“The professorship gives me the opportunity to strengthen a field that is highly specialised and characterised by rare and complex conditions. It creates better frameworks for collaboration and for the development of more standardised and targeted treatments,” says Yazan F. Rawashdeh.

The new Clinical Professor is involved in international research projects on the relationship between genetics, environmental factors, and hypospadias – a congenital malformation in boys where the urethra opens on the underside of the penis instead of at the tip. In addition, he is working to develop shared European guidelines for diagnosis and treatment.

The research is particularly significant for children with rare congenital urinary tract malformations and their families, where improved knowledge and treatment can make a substantial difference throughout life.
