Maja Ludvigsen is a new professor specialising in molecular and translational hematology.
Maja Ludvigsen has been appointed Professor of Molecular and Translational Hematology at the Department of Clinical Medicine. Her research focuses on cancer biology, with a particular emphasis on blood cancers and lymphomas.
As a new professor, Maja Ludvigsen will translate knowledge of the biology of cancer cells into improved diagnostics and new treatment options for patients.
Her research group examines cancer biology from many perspectives - from molecular mechanisms and the cellular environment of tumours to large-scale protein analyses, image-based cellular structures and targeted gene therapy.
“My aim is for the research ultimately to give patients the best possible treatment. This requires us to gain a better understanding of the biology of these diseases and, on that basis, to make more precise diagnoses and develop new treatment options,” says Maja Ludvigsen, who is also affiliated with the Department of Hematology at Aarhus University Hospital.
The new professor conducts research into lymphomas, for example follicular lymphoma, as well as leukaemia and pre-leukaemic syndromes. However, her research also extends beyond hematology to areas such as sarcomas. Here, she investigates which factors may help predict disease progression, and how treatment can be targeted to the genetic changes that drive certain forms of cancer.
