Women’s health has moved high up the national research agenda. On 1 October, the Women’s Health Network will bring together researchers across disciplines for its Inaugural Meeting. Everyone is welcome – and there is still time to submit a poster or propose a flash talk.

- Would you like to present your research? PhD students, postdocs, research-year students and other early-career researchers are encouraged to submit an abstract for a poster and/or flash talk. Selected early-career researchers will have the opportunity to present their research as flash talks in a plenary session.

The Women’s Health Network was launched in spring 2026, following interest from more than 50 researchers at the faculty. The network aims to strengthen research into women’s health and female biology by bringing together research communities from across Aarhus University.
At the Inaugural Meeting, you can gain insight into current research in the field and meet colleagues with different academic perspectives.
“Women’s health cannot be understood within the confines of a single discipline. When epidemiologists, clinicians, pharmacologists and social science researchers come together, we can identify blind spots and ask questions that none of us would have asked on our own,” says Dorte Rytter, associate professor and one of the network’s co-chairs.

Pain, prenatal diagnosis and intimate partner homicide
The programme for the Inaugural Meeting reflects the breadth of the research field, ranging from the biology of the female body to the social conditions that shape women’s health. The presentations will explore, among other topics, what population data can tell us about women’s health, how women experience pain, and how pharmacology can contribute to better treatment. Other presentations will focus on prenatal diagnosis and forensic knowledge of intimate partner homicide.
Speakers include Dorte Rytter, Lene Baad-Hansen, Ulf Simonsen, Ida Vogel and Asser Hedegaard Thomsen.
Member of the Danish Parliament and spokesperson on women’s health Camilla Fabricius (Social Democrats) will open the academic programme with a political perspective on why women’s health has moved up the agenda – and on the important role played by research.
Following the presentations, Camilla Fabricius will join the researchers for a panel discussion.

If you are a PhD student, postdoc, research-year student or otherwise at an early stage of your research career, the network encourages you to contribute your research.
Submit an abstract for a poster or flash talk and take the opportunity to present your research to colleagues from across the faculty. Selected early-career researchers will have the opportunity to present their research as flash talks in a plenary session.
“We hope that many early-career researchers will want to contribute. A flash talk lasting just a few minutes may be enough for a researcher from another field to spot a useful method, dataset or potential collaborator. These are precisely the kinds of connections we hope the Inaugural Meeting will create,” says Clinical Associate Professor Jens Fuglsang, the network’s other co-chair.
Following the day’s presentations and panel discussion, conversations will continue at a reception and closing poster session.
