Health increases climate efforts
The faculty is continuing its work to reduce its collective climate footprint, where all employees can contribute. A poster and a new climate webpage, providing an overview of climate initiatives and principles for air travel, aim to make the effort visible.

Health is intensifying its climate initiatives and contributing to reducing the university’s overall CO2 emissions. A poster and a new website will showcase the faculty’s climate initiatives, allowing employees to familiarize themselves with the measures in place and understand how they can contribute.
“The new climate webpage offers a comprehensive overview of the initiatives we have launched in recent years and demonstrates our ambitious approach to the green transition,” says Dean Anne-Mette Hvas.
Health is working on multiple fronts to create a greener faculty, including measures such as reducing air travel, saving energy, recycling waste, providing vegetarian meals at meetings, and offering better opportunities for virtual participation in meetings and conferences.
Additionally, a project involving the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) certification of selected laboratories has recently been launched. These laboratories will act as pilot projects to explore how to improve climate efficiency within Health's laboratories.
Think before you fly
The faculty has also introduced principles for air travel to help employees make climate-conscious decisions and reduce CO2 emissions.
“We need to reconsider our travel habits. Air transport constitutes a significant part of our climate footprint, and therefore, we must make targeted efforts in this area,” says Dean Anne-Mette Hvas.
The new air travel principles include guidelines such as avoiding domestic flights, choosing train travel for destinations within five hours, and prioritizing digital meetings where possible. If air travel is necessary, it must be booked through Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), with whom AU has an agreement. CWT also monitors CO2 emissions from travel.
Shared responsibility and future goals
Aarhus University has an overarching climate strategy that involves a significant reduction of CO2 emissions across the entire university.
The goal of the new climate website is to inform and motivate employees to take part in climate efforts and make sustainable choices a natural part of daily life.
To contribute to the initiative, employees can print out the poster summarizing the faculty’s climate efforts and hang it in offices, kitchens, and meeting rooms as a reminder of the shared goals at the faculty.
You can find the climate page and learn more about the initiatives on Health’s website.
