Cancer researcher becomes new professor at Aarhus University

At the turn of the year, Ian Mills will assume a position as professor at the Department of Biomedicine. He is internationally recognized for his biomedical cancer research, with a particular focus on how metabolism and hormonal signaling influence cancer development.

The professorship is supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Ian Mills is particularly excited about enhancing the teaching of clinical biochemistry and metabolism for medical and natural science students at Aarhus University.

Ian Mills holds a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from the University of Liverpool. His primary research focuses on prostate cancer and the mechanisms that enable cancer cells to adapt to metabolic changes, withstand stress, and survive treatment.

“By targeting the metabolic processes that cancer cells depend on, I hope my research can improve cancer treatments and lead to better outcomes for patients,” says Ian Mills, who looks forward to continuing his research at Aarhus University and collaborating with both researchers and clinicians.

“For researchers, my work provides new insights into the regulation of metabolism in disease, while clinicians can use the findings to assess the risk of cancer progression and develop more targeted treatments. The public can also gain an understanding of how lifestyle and diet influence the body’s metabolism and potentially reduce cancer risk,” explains Ian Mills, who will begin his professorship on January 1, 2025.
