According to the Jorck Foundation, Anne Hammer’s research has been pivotal in shaping both national and international guidelines for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of cervical cell abnormalities. Notably, she has provided new insights into the optimal management of moderate cell changes and contributed to a deeper understanding of why some women infected with HPV develop cell abnormalities and cancer, while others do not.

Anne Hammer was the first to document that conservative treatment of moderate cell abnormalities is associated with a fourfold increased risk of cervical cancer - findings that have led to changes in clinical practice worldwide.

In 2024, she was appointed professor, established the University Clinic in Gynaecological HPV-Related Disease at Gødstrup Regional Hospital, secured over DKK 25 million in external research funding, and was appointed co-chair of the WHO/IARC European quality assurance programme for cervical cancer screening.

“I am deeply honoured to receive the Jorck Foundation Research Award. The award is a great recognition of the collaborative work I’ve had the pleasure of carrying out with skilled colleagues and partners - and an important reminder that our research can make a real difference to women’s health,” says Professor Anne Hammer.
